About

In 2022 the authors of Between Freedom and Equality — Barbara Boyle Torrey and Clara Myrick “Tiggy” Green — introduced their then new book to their colleague and former National Academy of Sciences President Bruce Alberts.

Alberts immediately suggested making the story of George Pointer available as a website that could be used by teachers in the Washington DC public schools.

This site was created to be used both as a companion for the book Between Freedom and Equality, and as a standalone resource for educators and individuals interested in the surprising truths about the experience of being black in the early days of the United States.
